Brazil vs Costa Rica

Matches between Latin American countries are more often than not filled with excitement, passion and great attacking football, and we are expecting it to be no different when Brazil take on Costa Rica on the 22nd June. This will be the second match for both countries and will take place in the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg.

In the first matches in Group E, Brazil take on Switzerland and Costa Rica take on Serbia. Brazil are likely to be too strong for Switzerland. Costa Rica could get something out of the game against Serbia, though this will be a tough match for them.

Brazil will definitely be pushing for victory and looking to confirm their place in the knockout stages. Costa Rica will have to be at the top of their game to compete with the Selecao.

Brazil vs Costa Rica Head To Head

The teams have faced each other on ten occasions, and Brazil have dominated the head to head with nine victories. Costa Rica have one win against Brazil which came way back in 1960. There have also been two World Cup meetings between the sides in the past.

In 1990, Brazil beat Costa Rica 1-0 and in 2002, Brazil comfortably brushed Costa Rica aside 5-2 in the group stages on their way to lifting the World Cup – their most recent World Cup triumph.

Brazil vs Costa Rica 2018 World Cup Prediction

Brazil are, along with Germany, the favourites to win the World Cup this year. Their squad is littered with exceptional players and in contrast to many Brazil teams of the past, it is also well balanced. Neymar, Willian, Coutinho, Jesus and Firmino form a formidable attack which is going to be feared by any opposition Brazil face.

Brazil would be very disappointed with any result but a victory against Costa Rica, and everything points to that coming to pass. Brazil are likely to simply have too much for Costa Rica, at least on paper.

Costa Rica enjoyed a remarkable World Cup in 2014 in their opponent’s country and narrowly missed out on a semi-final place after agonisingly losing on penalties to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals. They topped their group at the World Cup, finishing above Uruguay, Italy and England. It is safe to say that Costa Rica surprised everyone, and they won many fans for their performances in Brazil.

However, we think a similar feat is highly unlikely this summer and that Costa Rica will struggle to progress from their group. They can take confidence from their 2014 showing and it wouldn’t exactly be hugely surprising if they qualified for the knockout stages. Nonetheless, we think Brazil will beat Costa Rica without any real difficulties in this fixture.
