Russia Squad

Although Russia is playing on home turf this year, many fans are skeptical of their chances in World Cup 2018. One of the main reasons for that is Russia squad and player line-up, so let’s find out some more about it.

Russia squad this year includes almost 30 footballers, though few of them are known internationally as much as those of other teams that are participating in the tournament.

Therefore, it seems pretty accurate that Russia is rated as the 66th best football team in the world according to FIFA — a ranking that’s among the lowest ones in the list of the qualified teams.

Having said that, it would seem like a successful performance if Russia qualified to the round of 16 at all. That’s what Stanislav Cherchesov will try to do in the first matches against Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay.

Cherchesov is Russia’s national team coach since 2016. Although he didn’t achieve much as a national coach yet, he has managed several clubs and has played for many years as Russia’s and Soviet Union’s goalkeeper, so he has extensive international experience nevertheless.
