Portugal Squad

Portugal, winners of Euro 2016 two years ago, will head to the World Cup in Russia full of confidence. Their victory in France at the Euros was somewhat of a surprise and the Iberians will be hoping to build on that at the World Cup.

Portugal are not the favourites at the World Cup, but they undoubtedly boast some outstanding players, none more so than the FIFA World Player of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Portugal announced their 23-man World Cup squad just a few days ago. Let’s have a look at it and see who made the cut.

World Cup 2018 Portugal Squad

Goalkeepers: Anthony Lopes, Beto, Rui Patricio

Defenders: Bruno Alves, Cedric Soares, Jose Fonte, Mario Rui, Pepe, Raphael Guerreiro, Ricardo Pereira, Ruben Dias

Midfielders: Adrien Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Mario, Joao Moutinho, Manuel Fernandes, William Carvalho

Forwards: Andre Silva, Bernardo Silva, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gelson Martins, Goncalo Guedes, Ricardo Quaresma

As we can see, there is plenty of talent in this team and Portugal will cause any team in the competition many problems. If Cristiano Ronaldo can play at a high level throughout the tournament this in itself will mean that Portgual could go all the way in Russia.

Portugal begin their World Cup campaign against Iberian rivals, Spain, on 15th June.
