UAE Team Emirates is a promising team in Tour de France. Its odds and predictions may not be the best, but you should get to know them anyway. It might end up as one of the top teams after the finish on 29 July.
- UAE team is sponsored by the United Arab Emirates
- It was founded in 1990, so it’s one of the oldest professional road bicycle racing teams today
- It also has a UCI WorldTeam status ever since 2005
- UAE participated in all major tours of cycling ever since (except one edition of Tour de France)
UAE Team Emirates automatically qualifies to Tour de France races. The same applies to Tour de France 2018, starting very soon on 7 July. So, let’s see what this team is all about. In this odds & predictions guide, we’ll answer these questions:
- What are the current members?
- What can we expect from them this year?
- How competitive are they in Tour de France 2018 stages?
- Can the team win the race?
- Who are their best riders?
- And more!
UAE Team Emirates Winning Odds Tour de France
UAE went short in last year’s team classification in Tour de France. Despite that, it’s a team with talented cyclists to spare. What this means is that their odds are quite huge.
No UAE rider has even won the general classification in this race, but there’s one green jersey win belonging to the team. Besides, it has been quite successful in other major tours.
The team’s overall achievements are also lengthy, so they get enough attention from the press and fans.
We have to say that UAE Team Emirates isn’t the favourite team this season. But while they’re not equal to competitors like Team Sky, you could still benefit from them.
With a carefully placed bet after watching them ride the first stages, we think UAE riders could potentially make a smart gambler much richer.
UAE Team Emirates Tour de France Predictions
UAE Team Emirates was previously known as Lampre. This name they carried for more than a decade. However, the team’s licence was transferred to a different company recently.
The team then had to look for other options and ended up with UAE banks covering for them, so they turned into a UAE team in 2017, only last year.
Despite that, the team remains mainly Italian. It was a team from Italy officially all the way from 1990 to 2016.
The manager of the team is also a famous Italian cyclist Giuseppe Saronni. He won several major tours more than once. Tour de France, unfortunately, is not one of them.
Speaking of the current cyclists, there are 26 of them in the team. Almost half are from Italy, but others come from countries like:
- United Arab Emirates
- Great Britain
- and others as well
We can’t say that UAE is one of the best teams in Tour de France this year, but they have some good racers. Fabio Aru is the best one and the newest addition too. He left his first team Astana for UAE at the end of the last season.
UAE Team Emirates Riders 2018
UAE Team Emirates will send eight cyclists to 2018 Tour de France and we already know seven of them who will probably go to compete in France. Here’s the list as of today (not confirmed yet):
- Fabio Aru (Italy)
- Sven Erik Bystrøm (Norway)
- Daniel Martin (Ireland)
- John Darwin Atapuma (Colombia)
- Alexander Kristoff (Norway)
- Rui Costa (Portugal)
- Rory Sutherland (Australia)
Fabio Aru won one individual stage of 2017 Tour de France and ended up 5th in general classification. Aside from him, others have also achieved quite a lot.
Dan Martin, for example, was 6th in the last Tour de France.
Alexander Kristoff won several Tour de France stages before. He was also 4th in green jersey classification last year. So, UAE seems ready for battle.
UAE Team Emirates may not be one of the highest-rated teams right now, but that may change after Tour de France 2018.
