Tour de France stage 10 is one of the most exciting stages to be waiting for. Featuring several impressive mountain ascents, it’s the first truly mountainous stage in this year’s race.
This means that the climbers will finally get an opportunity to make a name for themselves. It’s their chance fight for a jersey, especially the polka dot one.
With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at this stage. Who has the best chances to win at it? How can you bet? Here are the predictions from our cycling specialists.
Some basic info first:
- It will start on 17 July
- The cyclists from 22 teams will travel from Annecy to Le Grand-Bornand
- It’s the first mountainous stage with intimidating peaks
Tour de France Stage 10 Predictions
This is one of the stages where mountain climbers will have a definite advantage. It’s their element and so it’s very likely that a climber will win this stage.
The winner has to be good at climbing at least. However, we wouldn’t disregard non-climbing specialists or all-rounders.
This doesn’t mean that others have no chance. After all, there’s more than one stretch that is perfect for sprinting. The middle of the stage is a rather flat one.
Likewise, the final descent might help some trailing racers overcome those in front. That is if they can keep up after 35 kilometres of steep climbing.
35 kilometres out of 158 in the total of this stage is quite significant indeed. So we probably won’t surprise anyone by suggesting that the winner of this stage will be the polka dot jersey wearer after stage 21.
Who Will Win Stage 10?
Nairo Quintana is one of the most likely candidates. Being a climber and one of the best at that, he should feel like he has a lot to prove in Tour de France 2018. Especially since there are so many mountains to cross.
Romain Bardet from AG2R La Mondiale is another likely winner of stage 10. He was 3rd last year in general classification. Plus, we have a feeling he’ll aim for an even better result this July.
Once again, Chris Froome could win this stage as well. He has a great team to help him and he’s known to dominate in similar terrains.
Team to Win Stage 10
As for the teams, there are many contenders to win this stage. Since it’s in the second half of the race, it’s difficult to predict the team strength after so many stages beforehand.
However, two teams have better odds than the rest.
- Team Sky has a very strong climbing team this year, just like they had last time
- Movistar Team is another one that’s likely to overtake the opposition in the mountainous stretches
