It’s that time of year again and after many months of tension, big industry players can breath a sigh of relief. The Global Gaming Awards 2016 shortlist has been announced and many of the gaming brands we know and love have been recognised. The Global Gaming Awards is operated by Gambling Insider and is a celebration of those who have made a mark and brought innovation to the gaming sector in the past year. All nominees are picked through a lengthy process, assessed by 60 judges and the final results will be announced on September 26th at the award show in Las Vegas. In the running for awards are some of the names we’re proud to host here at GoWin, including software developers NetEnt, IGT and NYX.
Perhaps a little unsurprisingly, as we already know how dedicated their team is to pushing the boundaries of online gaming, NetEnt is up for two awards: Digital Product of the Year and Digital Industry Supplier of the Year. This is a huge accomplishment for the brand, which scooped one award in last year’s event.
The Digital Product of the Year prize recognizes and rewards the platforms, technology and games that have stood out in the online gaming world in 2016. NetEnt is nominated for it’s much loved Guns N Roses slot, which stands as their most successful branded slot ever. The brand is looking to take the reins from Microgaming’s Jurassic Park slot, which won the prize last year and the iconic content, original features and vibrant animation of Guns N’ Roses is sure to help them out.
Their second nomination is one of the most coveted prizes going. Digital Industry Supplier of the Year is a huge deal to win, but luckily for NetEnt, they’ve already got some experience. The brand took this well-respected award home last year, so we can imagine the pressure is on to win for a second year running. The award is for celebrating ‘the providers that the industry is relying on most to take digital gaming forward into the future’ and with NetEnt already clocking 16 new game releases this year, we can see why they’re in with a chance of winning. However, they’ve got some decent competition in the category, up against other world-class software developers such as Playtech, Microgaming and NYX.
NYX is another industry-leader that’s been shortlisted for a variety of awards. They’re nominated in three categories, Digital Supplier of the Year, Digital Gaming Innovation and their CEO Matt Davey is up for North American Executive of the Year too.
Davey has been the man behind much of NYX’s growth in 2016, and has taken the business from a $7 million company to become a truly global player. He led their acquisition of Cryptologic last year, the Game360 acquisition and this year he has spearheaded their purchase of the brand OpenBet. This leaves NYX with a huge market share of content and distribution and it’s safe to say Davey has worked hard for his nomination.
In other areas, NYX have clearly been working hard too. As mentioned earlier, they’re running against NetEnt for the highly-competitive Digital Industry Supplier of the Year award. The brand supply over 700 games to over 200 operators globally, but alongside praising their comprehensive platform and breadth of clients, the award panel have also commended the company on their industry leading customer support service, heralding it ‘an example to follow in the industry.’
NYX’s final nomination is for Digital Gaming Innovation and they’re shortlisted specifically for their game Witch Pickings. The slot is one of the most popular this year, and boasts a range of unique features. It features the novel concept of offering the player a choice of what game rules apply to bonus rounds. The increased decision making for players is set to be a huge trend, as more players look towards skill games and the ability to control an outcome more than a regular slot can offer. The award panel have noted that this innovation could be a glimpse into the future and shows a willingness by NYX to think outside of the box.
We’re always proud when we see the companies we love do well and the Global Gaming Awards Shortlist is full of brands we choose to champion here at GoWin. Similarly we’re always looking out for innovative gaming features and slots which is why you can try out both of the games mentioned above, NetEnt’s Guns N’Roses and NYX’s Witch Pickings, here at this very site. As you can see from their nominations, both games offer something completely new to the market, and it’s these extra features that make them exciting and fresh. They’re both definitely worth a spin so why not head over to our casino now to see for yourself.
