Actors Before They Were Famous

Now I’m sure you have heard various stories about what celebrities used to do for a living before they became a celeb, but this blog is a little different…

Big Star, Small Role

Before many big stars had established themselves in Hollywood they often had to take very minor roles in films to get by.

I'm going to surprise you by listing many blockbuster films that had major actors in them and you didn't even notice. Why didn't you notice? Because the roles were that minuscule!!!! Read on…

Did you know that Christian Bale was in Titanic? Actually that one is not true- but it got your attention! All the example listed below are genuine.

1. Billy Zane in Back to the Future (1985)

Now one of the real stars of Titanic (not Christian Bale) showed his face in the original Back to the Future film – Billy Zane played Match one of Biff Tannen’s goons- he even appeared in the sequel too!

He later went on to star in hit movies such as Dead Calm and the Phantom- well, Dead Calm was a hit!

His next big production will be Zoolander 2 which will be released next year- can’t wait to see ‘Blue Steel’ back on the big screen! And check out the ‘How to do the Blue Steel guide‘. Hilarious.

Zane is also known for his high profile relationship with model Kelly Brook.

2. Bill Paxton in the Terminator (1984)

Yes, Paxton featured in the 1984 smash hit. He played one of the punks that were confronted by a naked Arnold Schwarzenegger at the beginning of the film.

Paxton went on to star in a vast array of blockbusters including Titanic (there’s that film again!), Aliens, Predator 2, and Apollo 13, among many others!

He would also go on to star alongside his Terminator co-star Michael Biehn in a few other classic action films.

Personally, I think Paxton is a great actor and I loved his performance as Hudson in Aliens. Awesome film, awesome actor!

3. Dolph Lundgren in View to a Kill (1985)

Known as Venz in this James Bond instalment; it was actually Dolph’s acting debut – and the only reason he got that role was because he was dating the film’s lead actress Grace Jones.

Dolph is actually a very interesting character: he has a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering; he is the former European heavyweight Karate champion; a former model; a former Swedish marine; and is widely reported to be fluent in five languages.

Although best known for his role as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, I would argue his best performance was in Universal Soldier- “Are we having fun yet?”

Recently fans have seen him in the very successful Expendables film series, but Dolph is also busy directing movies too!

4. Denise Richards in Loaded Weapon (1993)

So maybe Miss Richards isn't such as big star, but she did appear in popular films like Love Actually and Bond movie The World is Not Enough.

She made a brief appearance opposite Emilio Estevez in Loaded Weapon (a very funny movie in my opinion- watch it!), but I don’t seem to remember her having any lines. Well, if she did then they were instantly forgettable…

5. Jack Black in Demolition Man (1993)

Looking at Jack Black’s physique and comedy persona, it is a little hard to imagine him in an action movie like Stallone’s Demolition Man, but I’m guessing he was in better shape back in the 1990’s.

Black has starred in major productions such as King Kong and Shallow Hall, and let’s not forget his rock band Tenacious D.

Is he a better singer or actor? What do you think?

6. Jake Gyllenhaal in City Slickers (1991)

Danny Robbins was his character’s name as he played Billy Crystal’s son in this fantastic film. Maybe I should watch this film again before referring to it as ‘fantastic’- as I was quite young when last watched it…

Anyway, Jake’s current film on release is the well received Southpaw- a gritty boxing movie. As a boxing fanatic, I will definitely be going to see that one in the cinema!

People often speak of Raging Bull as the best boxing movie of all time, but we all know it’s really Rocky IV featuring a gentleman who is also mentioned in this blog.

Going back to Gyllenhaal, here is a bit of trivia for you: He was set to play the title character in Spider-man 2 due to Tobey Maguire being injured before filming. However, Maguire made a quick recovery and reprised his role as Spider-Man.

7. Denzel Washington in Death Wish (1974)

His ‘amazing' acting debut. He didn't say a word and was in the film for less than a minute. Great! His career could only improve after that and it certainly did.

Denzel is a magic actor, and I do love a lot of his films: Fallen, John Q, Deja Vu, and the Equalizer, just to name a few!

He is currently filming the Magnificent Seven and is scheduled to appear in the Equalizer II – I hope it's as good as the first one. Both films are set to be released in 2017.

8. Leonard Nimoy in Zombies of the Stratosphere (1952)

What do you mean you have never heard of this epic blockbuster??? To be honest, I don't think many of us have…   I just loved the name so thought I would add it to our list.
